Magpies goalkeeper took no notice of speculation about his future

Tim Krul insists he never took any notice of speculation about his future and says it is 'onwards and upwards' at Newcastle United after signing a new contract. The Dutch goalkeeper has been rewarded with a new five-year contract at St James' Park after establishing himself as the Magpies' first choice. His impressive performances this season had prompted rumours that Tottenham Hotspur were lining up a summer bid for the 23-year-old. However, Krul had no trouble in ignoring the transfer gossip and admits he is fulfilling a dream by playing for Newcastle.

Dream

"To be honest, I never really read the papers, but me committing my future here, I owe the club and I owe the manager a lot because he gave me the chance to play in the Premier League," said Krul. "To play for this club has always been my dream and I am going to do this for the next years to come. It's onwards and upwards, really." Fabricio Coloccini has also signed a new long-term deal in the North East and Krul is confident there is a bright future for Alan Pardew's side. He added: "Of course committing Colo, our captain, is very important for me also because that just shows the way the club is heading at this stage. "We are definitely heading the right way and I am really happy to commit my future for five years. "Times are great at the moment. The spirit is high in the group and everyone is looking forward to tomorrow because it's a huge, huge game to be involved in."
