Reds stopper disappointed to lose on return to the side

Liverpool defender Jon Flanagan admitted he had mixed emotions after seeing his return to the side spoiled by the defeat to Wigan. Flanagan made his first Premier League start since the opening day of the season due to injuries to Glen Johnson and Martin Kelly. The 19-year-old was happy with his own display, but admits his return was tinged with disappointment after going down to struggling Wigan at Anfield.

Disappointed

"I think I did alright but the result is the main thing and we're all disappointed with that," said Flanagan. "Everyone in the dressing room is very disappointed. We dominated the game but we have to pick ourselves up. "I'll keep training hard and try to impress the boss and hopefully get more game time." Flanagan knows they must bounce back against Newcastle this weekend after suffering their fifth Premier League defeat in six games against Wigan. "We've got to train hard all week now, pick ourselves up and get ready for Newcastle," added Flanagan. "Hopefully we can get a win up there." Flanagan felt the only silver lining from the Wigan defeat was Raheem Sterling's debut. "I was delighted for Raheem," continued Flanagan. "Kenny gave the young kids a chance again, which is great for the club. It shows what we've got coming through."
