QPR skipper delighted to have proved a point to doubters

Joey Barton says the team spirit inside the Queens Park Rangers camp is responsible for a run of results that could see the club to Premier League safety. The capital club took a giant step towards preserving their top flight status on Sunday as Djibril Cisse netted late on to seal a dramatic 1-0 win over Stoke. Victory over the Potters lifted Mark Hughes' men two points clear of the drop zone with only one more game to come. Their final fixture will take them to title hopefuls Manchester City, but Barton admits they are now 'masters of our destiny'. He is delighted to be in such a position, following five wins in nine, and hopes the battling qualities displayed by QPR will have been noted by their critics. "A lot of people wrote us off 10 games ago and said our run-in was too difficult," said Barton. "But we stayed compact, kept together as a dressing room, kept chipping away and now we are masters of our destiny."
