Aguero and Zabaleta in but Manchester City team-mate misses out

Carlos Tevez has been left out of the Argentina squad for their World Cup qualifier against Ecuador. The 28-year-old forward helped Manchester City to their first league title in 44 years with four goals in the final six games of the season. But coach Alejandro Sabella could not find a place for Tevez alongside his City team-mates Sergio Aguero and Pablo Zabaleta. Liverpool's Maxi Rodriguez is also in the squad. Other big-names Lionel Messi and Gonzalo Higuain were among the 18 foreign-based stars that will face Ecuador on June 2 before taking on Brazil in a friendly in the United States. Elsewhere, the main surprise was the selection of right-back Matias Rodriguez, who impressed for Universidad de Chile on their march to Copa Sudamericana success in December. Along with Tevez, Javier Pastore was the most high-profile omission on the list. The home-based players will be named next week.
