Scotland midfielder signs two-year deal at Ashton Gate

Bristol City midfielder Stephen Pearson has signed a new two-year contract with the Championship club. The 29-year-old Scotland international earned a new deal after a successful six-month spell at Ashton Gate last season. Pearson signed for Derby County in 2007, but failed to establish himself at Pride Park following his move from SPL giants Celtic. In January, the Rams terminated the player's contract by mutual consent but he immediately penned a deal at City until the end of the season. "It's great that we've been able to agree a deal for two more seasons," Pearson told the club's official website. "The club is going through a lot of change and it's a very exciting one to be part of. "I had other options available to me and could have waited, but I enjoyed my time at Ashton Gate so much that I knew this was the right club for me." Meanwhile, manager Derek McInnes added: "I'm very pleased we have been able to secure Stephen's signature. He played a key part in our recovery and ultimate survival last season."
