Giant Bosnian wants Potters to emulate Newcastle's season

Asmir Begovic believes the best is yet to come from this Stoke side who have exceeded the expectations of many in recent years. The Potters had a lengthy spell away from the top flight in years gone past as the club fell on hard times. But under Tony Pulis the Britannia Stadium has become a firm fixture in the Premier League and the fans tasted European competition last season for the first time in a generation. And Begovic points to the way Newcastle have risen from the ashes to push the clubs at the top for Champions League places as where the club would like to be this season. "We're desperate for the club to push on and I think there is a lot of room to grow in many respects," said the 25-year-old Bosnian international keeper. "The main thing for the club, and what's happening really, is that they've tried to put plans in place for the club to be successful long term, and that's very important "Newcastle have been a kind of a sleeping giant really, if you think about where the club was 10-odd years ago and the levels they were competing at, so it's no surprise they can reach those levels. "For us, being in Europe has taken us into unexplored territory, so we're starting to scratch the surface and see where we can go from there."
