Defender set to replace Mariappa at Vicarage Road

Sky Sports understands Watford are poised to sign former Queens Park Rangers defender Fitz Hall. Hall is available on a free transfer after being released by QPR earlier this summer. The former Crystal Palace and Wigan man found first-team chances hard to come by at Loftus Road last season and Mark Hughes decided to let him move on. A number of clubs have expressed an interest in the 31-year-old, but the Hornets are set to win the race for the central defender's signature. Watford are in the market for defensive reinforcements having sold Adrian Mariappa to Reading and Hall has been identified as a perfect replacement for the former captain. Hall is understood to have undergone a medical at Vicarage Road and is expected to seal his switch to Watford in the next 24 hours.
