Jamie Ward admits he was nervous making his first start for Northern Ireland and is hoping to be given a chance up front against Luxembourg.
With Shane Ferguson ruled out through injury, Ward was handed a role on the left side of midfield for Northern Ireland's 2-0 defeat in Russia on Friday.
The Derby County striker was asked to curb his natural attacking instincts to perform a job for the team and was satisfied with his display.
However, with Northern Ireland expected to be more positive for Tuesday's World Cup qualifier with Luxembourg, Ward is waiting to see what role coach Michael O'Neill has in mind for him.
"I was nervous, I think that's natural. It's something different, not like playing club football, which you're used to week in, week out," said Ward.
"I had to do a job for the team and I thought I did it. I worked hard but hopefully the game (on Tuesday) will be a completely different game.
"I'd rather be going forward than defending most of the time. It's up to Michael if he wants to play me up front or wherever but as long as I play I don't really mind."
