Brazilian football great Pele has been hospitalised in Sao Paulo for the third time in less than a year.
The 74-year-old is reported to have undergone spinal surgery on Thursday and, according to Globo TV is 'recovering well' at the Albert Einstein hospital.
Pele underwent prostate surgery at the same hospital last May.
The procedure was to treat a condition that creates urinary problems because of an enlarged prostate, doctors said at the time. Tests conducted after that surgery showed there were no tumours.
He was also hospitalized for two weeks in December because of a urinary tract infection that stemmed from previous surgery to remove kidney stones.
