Chelsea will play Werder Bremen on August 7 as part of their pre-season preparations.

Antonio Conte will take his squad to Germany after Chelsea's tour of the United States, where they are due to play friendlies against Liverpool. Real Madrid and AC Milan.

Lazio were originally scheduled to face the Bundesliga side, but that game was called off because of concerns about crowd trouble.

"We're delighted to have been able to find such attractive opponents at such short notice for our official season opening," Bremen's chairman Klaus Filbry said.

"I would like to thank Lazio for the way they showed full understanding of our decision to call off that game."

Chelsea began their pre-season programme in Austria on Saturday, losing 2-0 to Rapid Vienna as new boss Conte took charge for the first time.
