West Brom manager Tony Pulis says he will not sign players just for the sake of it before the end of the transfer window

Tony Pulis is convinced he can deliver the signings that West Brom fans crave before Transfer Deadline Day.

Pulis has spoken publicly of the need to strengthen and has said that he wants to add five players to his squad.

With just five days left until the transfer window slams shut, the West Brom boss is confident he has time to bring in the players he wants, adding his transfer record should offer Baggies supporters some reassurance.

"I'm not going to panic and bring a load of players in to satisfy people out there and then, after two weeks, they say they are no better than what we've got," Pulis said ahead of the Super Sunday visit of Middlesbrough, live on Sky Sports 1.

"I still think I'm getting them (the five players). I have been at the club for two years and we have re-signed a lot of players who were under contract, but I have also said we need new impetus.

"They have to be the right players. When I came into the club there were players who were here and have since left and they cost an enormous amount of money and the club has not got any return.

"I'm hoping to sign players of that quality again," the Welshman added.

"There's no way I'll bring in players who will not help this group. I'm confident we can get those players in. If it goes to the wire it goes to the wire. But I'm not going to panic."

Saido Berahino has been heavily linked with a move to Stoke this summer but Pulis offered no update on the Burundi-born striker's future, insisting his attention is firmly focused on new signings.

He said: "You would have to speak to Stoke [about Berahino]. I've not been in touch with Stoke on any occasion. The only thing I deal with is what players I'm bringing in to this football club.

"I'll do my best to try and get them in. Even last night people here were working until 10:30 to bring people in and get a great deal for the club.

"I don't blame anybody but no deals have been done. It's difficult, it's a difficult market but we know that."

West Brom face newly-promoted Middlesbrough on Sunday and Pulis is expecting a difficult test against Aitor Karanka's side, who have taken four points from their opening two Premier League games this season.

He said: "Middlesbrough are well organised and they have some quality players. It will be tough but every Premier League game is tough.

"Boro have had a good start. You get that adrenaline in the first couple of months but then it gets harder."
