Sunderland's Duncan Watmore has been ruled out for the rest of the season after a scan today revealed he has damaged his cruciate ligaments.

The forward suffered the knee injury during Saturday's 2-1 win over Leicester City in the Premier League and was stretchered off.

It's the third injury blow to hit Sunderland in the past fortnight; Paddy McNair suffered a similar injury and will also miss the rest of the season, while Lynden Gooch tore ankle ligaments last week.

The clash resulted in Watmore being stretchered off, and Moyes feared the worst for the 22-year-old after the match.

"It's his knee. We'll need to get it assessed properly and find out exactly what it is, but it doesn't look good for him at the moment," Moyes told Sky Sports at the time.
