Burnley boss Sean Dyche says he is disappointed with defeat at Manchester City after the hosts were reduced to ten men

Burnley manager Sean Dyche was left disappointed after his side lost 2-1 to 10-man Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Monday.

City were reduced to 10 men in the 32nd minute after Fernandinho's red card, but Pep Guardiola's side responded thanks to second-half goals from Gael Clichy and Sergio Aguero.

Ben Mee pulled a goal back in the 70th minute but City held on for the victory, much to the frustration of Dyche.

"We're disappointed because it's difficult to come to these places and get a chance to take all three points and we had that chance with them being down to 10 men," Dyche told Sky Sports.

"We're disappointed with that but they are still a top-class side.

"You saw the two players they brought on at half-time and they'd make a difference to most games whether it's 10 or 11."

Fernandinho was shown his third red card in his last six matches for a two-footed lunge on Johann Berg Gudmundsson and Dyche thought the sending off was justified.

"I think the way the rules are now then it is a red card," he said. "It seems like not so many years ago that it would have been allowed and it's certainly a yellow.

"But the law states that if you come off your feet with two feet and the scissor action as well it's a red card."

Dyche thought City were lucky not to have a second player sent off after Bacary Sagna came together with George Boyd in the aftermath of Burnley's goal.

He added: "I thought the fact Sagna didn't get sent off was more of a head scratcher for me because if the referee books him and sees the incident then he's swiped out and kicked George Boyd when he's just trying to get the ball back to take the kick-off.

"That was a definite for me but it didn't get given."
