Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure says he expects new signing Benjamin Mendy to have a major impact in the Premier League, but hopes he can adapt quickly.
City have spent more than £200m this summer, with France international left-back Mendy costing £49.2m from Ligue 1 champions Monaco.
Toure is about to begin his eighth season with City, having signed a new one-year extension to remain with the club in June.
The Ivory Coast international says he is aware of the merits to Mendy's game, but added it can take players time to adapt to football in England.
"I know Mendy, because he's French and he's been playing for my former club Monaco. I think he's a fantastic player," Toure told Sky Sports News.
"You will see in the Premier League how powerful he is, how much energy he has. This guy is very exciting to see.
"I hope he's going to be fine in the Premier League, because it is such a tough league, and we all know you need to adapt for a month or so, or some players go on straight away.
"We will see. I hope he can adapt as much as possible because we don't have time."
Mendy signed a five-year contract with Pep Guardiola's City on Monday, and the 23-year-old could play his first game for the club against Real Madrid in Los Angeles in the early hours of Thursday morning UK time.
In addition to Mendy, City have signed a further four players this window, splashing out £42.5m on playmaker Bernardo Silva from Monaco, £34m on Benfica goalkeeper Ederson, £50m on right-back Kyle Walker from Tottenham and £26.5m on full-back Danilo from Real Madrid.
