Tony Adams is optimistic that Richard Hughes and Sean Davis will pen new deals at Portsmouth.
The Pompey boss is already closing in on an agreement with England international full-back Glen Johnson and would be delighted to get two more members of his squad tied down on long-term deals.
With Jermain Defoe's return to Tottenham currently dominating the headlines, the news that three key men are set to extend their stay at Fratton Park will come as welcome relief to the Pompey faithful.
Hughes is one of the club's longest-serving players, having joined in 2002, and Adams has been full of praise for the reliable midfielder.
"Richard is good to have around the place and he's very positive," he told
Radio Solent.
"Every time we've used him over the last couple of years he's come in and done a job for you.
"He's ever dependable and so valuable for a squad, a club and a manager."
Technical
Adams also paid tribute to Davis, with the combative former Spurs man having endured a topsy-turvy career on the South Coast.
"Sean will not let me down in any position," said the Pompey boss.
"He's got legs and covers the distances and is a good technical passer.
"I think the fans are taking to him a little bit with his attitude and his work rate.
"I'm a big fan of Sean Davis at the moment."
Meanwhile, one man hoping to benefit from Defoe's departure is David Nugent.
The one-cap England international has been utilised on the right side of midfield in recent weeks, but hopes an opening in the attacking third will hand him an opportunity to impress in his favoured position.
Nugent told
The News: "I prefer being a striker. But at the moment the gaffer is playing me out wide right, and I am enjoying being back in the side.
"I am just doing a job for the team really.
"I hope I can get a few more games to get match fit and start producing some performances for the club."
