Peruvian striker keen to stay in Germany

Claudio Pizarro is hoping to prolong his time at Werder Bremen past the end of the season. Bremen are keen to keep the Peruvian striker, but must first strike a deal with Chelsea. With Pizarro having fallen well down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge the Blues are likely to be willing to discuss business. The 30-year-old forward is certainly hoping that proves to be the case, expressing no desire to return to England. "I am very interested in staying at Werder," Pizarro told Kicker Sportmagazin. That commitment has come as welcome news to Bremen boss Klaus Allofs, who is also keen for an agreement to be reached with Chelsea.

Business

"Claudio has told us that he wants to stay," he said. "We have to be patient but we would also like to keep Claudio here. "We have to find out whether Chelsea are willing to do business, so it is too early to make final decisions at the moment." Meanwhile, Allofs also confirmed that the club are keeping tabs on Lyon's want-away striker Fred. "He is a good player," he added. "But because he is out of contract soon many clubs are chasing him."
