Redknapp reveals attempt to sign winger from Inter

Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp has revealed the club missed out on the signing of Inter Milan attacker Ricardo Quaresma. Portugal international Quaresma was strongly linked with a move to Spurs during the winter transfer window, with the winger unsettled at the Giuseppe Meazza. Redknapp has confirmed he held talks with Inter boss Jose Mourinho, but ultimately lost out to Chelsea, who secured the 25-year-old on deadline day on loan until the end of the season. The Spurs chief told Sky Sports News: "I spoke to Jose Mourinho on Sunday night for half an hour, had a great conversation with him on the phone. "He was helpful as usual, and he said, 'Yes Harry, you can have him, no problem'.

Bent future

"But then Chelsea came in out of the blue, so it was difficult. He is an exciting player and I am sure Chelsea have a good loan player." Redknapp went on to voice his backing for striker Darren Bent, who was the subject of interest from Premier League rivals Sunderland. He said: "I didn't want to let Darren go. He came on on Saturday and got two goals, and he's scored goals all season. "He is a terrific player. He is a big part of what we are looking to achieve here. I think he will be a major player between now and the end of the season."
