Kevin Kilbane believes Michael Turner's eye-catching season is deserving of an England call-up.

Tigers defender worthy of international acclaim

Kevin Kilbane believes Michael Turner's eye-catching season is deserving of an England call-up. With Hull City having held their own in the Premier League for much of the current campaign, Turner has been one of their top performers. He has offered a reassuring presence at the heart of the Tigers defence and has been unfazed by all of the challenges thrown his way. England boss Fabio Capello is reported to have contacted Hull on two occasions ahead of recent squads to discuss Turner's availability. That suggests the talented 25-year-old could have an international future, and Kilbane is adamant his team-mate could handle the step up in class. "I think he's capable of stepping up, I've been really impressed with him" Kilbane told the Hull Daily Mail. "He's a goal-threat in the opposition area but defensively, he's big and strong and good in the air. "He's got decent feet for a big man and he'll be an asset to Hull City over the next couple of years. It's nice to see him getting the credit."

Developing

Turner was discarded by Charlton as a youngster and has been forced to clamber his way up the league ladder from the bottom. However, he has made the transition into top flight performer with consummate ease, with Kilbane full of praise for the manner in which the centre-half handles himself. "He's developing all the time," added the Republic of Ireland international. "You sometimes never know until you do make the step up to the Premier League how players are going to react. "But he seems to have adapted to the step up well. Nothing has fazed him this year. "He certainly looks like a very good Premier League footballer. You might think he's one for the future but he's one for right now, that's how good he is."
