Striker struggling with thigh injury

Stoke will give striker James Beattie until the last minute to prove his fitness ahead of this weekend's clash with West Ham. Beattie missed last weekend's defeat with Fulham after picking up a thigh injury. The former Everton and Southampton hit-man is making good progress from the injury and Potters boss Tony Pulis will give the striker a late fitness test before finalising his line-up. "We will make a late decision on James - it will be down to him. It will be left until right before kick-off," said Pulis. "He is doing fine but we are not sure if this game is a week too early for him. We will take a view on it on Saturday."
