Wolves' record signing could miss start of the season

Wolves' record signing Kevin Doyle could miss the start of the season after undergoing an operation on a hernia. Questions had been asked over the striker's fitness when he sat out the club's pre-season friendly in Australia against North Queensland Fury. The 25-year-old had hoped the problem was with his hip but it was soon discovered that the injury required surgery. Despite the setback, and the fact that he has already lost fellow striker Chris Iwelumo with a broken toe, manager Mick McCarthy remained upbeat. "Kevin has had an op but is recovering well and he will now get his rehab," he told the Birmingham Mail. "Quite clearly he is going to be behind the others but he was running alright before and he will be fine. "He is a fit guy and anyone who has seen him play will know he puts a shift in. We will soon have him back on his feet."
