Sky Sports News understands Tottenham have lodged a £2million bid for Watford goalkeeper Scott Loach.
England U21 international Loach has been in excellent form all season and is believed to have caught the eye of several of the country's top clubs - with Spurs having now made their move.
Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has been frustrated in his attempts to bring in a back-up to regular No.1 Heurelho Gomes, with a move for Portsmouth's Asmir Begovic thwarted when Stoke registered their interest in the Bosnia international.
Redknapp has persistently been linked with a move for Begovic's team-mate David James but with the World Cup on the horizon, accepts the veteran keeper would be loath to play second fiddle to Gomes.
While conceding there is a chance of business being done at White Hart Lane, Redknapp is happy with his squad as it stands and not desperate to bring in fresh faces.
"Possibly, I wouldn't want to stand here and say no," he said on
Sky Sports News, when asked if there might be signings made on deadline day.
"The chairman Daniel (Levy) I think he quite likes deadline day, I'm sure he's busy on the phone today.
"I've been looking around for a back-up goalkeeper but at the moment we're not close to doing anything.
"We thought we had the kid from Portsmouth Begovic but he decided not to come.
Frustration
"I love Jamo, I think he's fantastic. I still think he's the best English goalkeeper but the situation is that he needs to play. I couldn't leave Gomes out of my team and obviously Jamo needs to play to go to the World Cup.
"He's a top goalkeeper but he needs to play to cement his place in the World Cup team."
Alan Hutton and Kyle Naughton are both set to leave the club on loan, to Sunderland and Middlesbrough respectively, but Redknapp is convinced Roman Pavlyuchenko will still be a Tottenham player at the close of play.
"I wouldn't think so, not today, I'd be very surprised," he continued with regards the Russian's possible departure.
"I spoke to the chairman earlier today, at around 7.30am, and he said there wasn't much going on.
"We're not desperate and we're not overly bothered about doing anything at all."
