Former Hull midfielder linked with Portuguese outfit

Sporting Lisbon are interested in signing former Hull midfielder Geovanni, according to the player's agent. The Brazilian is said to be a summer target for the Portuguese club, who are reported to have already opened talks. According to agent Roberto Assuncau, Sporting were waiting on clearance from Hull before discussions progressed any further. "It is true that Sporting Lisbon are interested in Geovanni," he told Portuguese Newspaper O Jogo. "We have been speaking about this for some weeks but we had to wait until Geovanni's situation was made clear in England. "Now that has been made clear, and he does not enter into Hull's plans, we must now arrange a meeting to take this move further." Geovanni, who scored five goals in 28 appearances for the Tigers last term, is one of many players to be made a free agent as Hull look to cut their debts. He has been linked with a number of other clubs, according to his agent, who claims Sporting Lisbon lead the chase. "At present, Geovanni has had offers from Greece (AEK Athens and Panathinaikos), Turkey (Ankaragucu and Trabzonspor) and others from Brazil," he said. "But the priority is Sporting Lisbon in all aspects and I am hoping for more news next week."
