Caulker warning to Swans stars

On-loan defender Steven Caulker has issued a warning to his Swansea team-mates who may be looking elsewhere come the summer.

Defender open to Swansea return

On-loan defender Steven Caulker has issued a warning to his Swansea team-mates who may be looking elsewhere come the summer. The 20-year-old centre-back has impressed for the Swans on a season-long loan from Tottenham, playing a key role in the campaign that has brought Brendan Rodgers and his players so much praise. As a result, several of the team's young stars, including 22-year-old Wales international Joe Allen, have been linked with big-money moves away from the Liberty Stadium. But Caulker knows from his time at Spurs that it can be difficult for young talent to emerge at the bigger clubs. "While I've been a Spurs player, I've seen Adel Taarabt and Kevin-Prince Boateng come in and then hardly feature," the England Under-21 man told The Star. "They have gone elsewhere and done well since but at the time it wasn't right for them."

Opportunities

What is right for Caulker next season will depend on how much football he would get to play at White Hart Lane. And if those opportunities are likely to be at a premium, the defender is happy to return to Swansea again for a second spell. He added: "The main thing for me is to play games - and wherever that will be will have to be decided in the summer. "If it looked like I wasn't going to play at Tottenham, then I would be looking for another loan. "And I'd be stupid to turn down returning to Swansea if the opportunity became available."
