Cottagers defender working hard to return to fitness

Fulham defender Zdenek Grygera hopes to return to fitness by the beginning of July as he continues his recovery from cruciate ligament damage. The Czech stopper, who joined the Cottagers from Juventus last summer, made a handful of appearances for the club before seeing his season cut short by a knee injury. The 31-year-old ruptured his cruciate ligament against Tottenham back in November and has not featured since. Grygera, who will spend the coming weeks continuing his recovery at Fulham's Motspur Park training ground, is optimistic of being fit before the new season gets underway. "I'm happy with my recovery and I feel well," he told the club's official website.

Positive

"I will start running again any day now so it's important that everything stays positive. "I'll be here over the summer focusing on my recovery. I will go away for a bit of family time but I want to train and do everything possible for my recovery. "I'm hoping to be fit at the end of June or the beginning of July." While disappointed to miss out on the latter part of Fulham's campaign, Grygera was impressed by the form Martin Jol's side produced in the run-in to seal a ninth-placed finish. "It was a great finish to the season and I think we've got a very good team," he said. "We've got a good system and a nice blend of young and older players. "I think we are a great team to watch because of the way Martin Jol sets us up to play and because there are a lot of technically gifted players in the side."
