Everton 6-2 Sunderland: Sam Allardyce hit for six for fourth time

Everton's thrashing of Sunderland was just the fourth time in 440 matches a Sam Allardyce team has conceded six in the Premier League.

The Black Cats boss looked to have got struggling Sunderland back on track with a Tyne-Wear derby win last weekend but, despite clawing their way back to 2-2 at Goodison Park, Allardyce's men crumpled to a 6-2 defeat on Sunday.

Hat-trick hero Arouna Kone, Gerard Deulofeu, Romelu Lukaku and own-goal scorer Sebastian Coates accounted for Allardyce's latest half-dozen drubbing.

Here we look at the three other times Big Sam's boys have been hit for six…

Bolton had conceded just twice in their previous five Premier League games before their trip to Manchester City but were blown away in the second half of the contest by Kevin Keegan's men.

Kevin Nolan had opened the scoring for Bolton but a Shaun Wright-Phillips brace either side of a Sylvain Distin score, followed by a Nicolas Anelka strike on 58 minutes put City 4-1 up. Ivan Campo pulled one back on the hour but, despite Wright-Phillips picking up his second yellow card two minutes later, City were still able to add another through Claudio Reyna.

The game proved to be a bizarre blip for Allardyce's Wanderers - they conceded just once in their next five league games and finished the season in eighth, while City ended up 16th, two places above the relegation zone.

Arsenal 6-2 BLACKBURN - October 4, 2009

Six different Arsenal players celebrated scoring against Allardyce's Blackburn in October 2009 - but Rovers had twice taken the lead, through Steven Nzonzi and then David Dunn, after Thomas Vermaelen's equaliser.

But Robin van Persie's goal three minutes later opened the flood gates, with Andrei Arshavin, Cesc Fabregas and Theo Walcott netting before Nicklas Bendtner completed the rout.

The result wasn't catastrophic for Blackburn's season, though. They finished the 2009/10 campaign in 10th, closer in points to the European qualifying spots than relegation, while Arsenal ended up third, 11 points adrift of champions Chelsea.

A five-star show from Dimitar Berbatov put Blackburn - and a young Phil Jones - to the sword at Old Trafford in 2010.

Bulgaria striker Berbatov found the net after just two minutes and had wrapped up his hat-trick two minutes after the interval. But he didn't stop there, scoring twice more to help United to a 7-0 lead with 20 minutes still to play. Park Ji-Sung and Nani were United's other scorers on the day, while Christopher Samba's late consolation was barely that on a wretched evening for the visitors.

Less than a month later Allardyce was sacked by Blackburn. Rovers were 13th in the league and Sir Alex Ferguson blasted the decision as "absolutely ridiculous". Steve Kean took over the reins and Rovers finished the season in 15th, four points above relegation, while Ferguson's United went on to win the title with a 1-1 draw at Blackburn in May.
