PAUL SCHOLES (v Ipswich Town, 24/9/1994)
What happened: United were 2-0 down when the fresh-faced teenager replaced Lee Sharpe after 62 minutes at Portman Road. Eric Cantona pulled one back before Scholes tapped home an equaliser from close range. Unfortunately for United, Ipswich won it with a third goal nine minutes from time.
What happened next: Scholes spent the next two decades pulling the strings in United's midfield, making 499 Premier League appearances, scoring 107 goals and winning 11 titles before retiring as one of the great one-club men in 2013.

OLE GUNNAR SOLSKJAER (v Blackburn, 25/8/1996)
What happened: Solskjaer was a complete unknown when he joined United from Norwegian side Molde in 1996, but he announced his arrival by scoring just six minutes into his debut after coming off the bench in a 2-2 draw against Blackburn.
What happened next: 'The Baby-faced Assassin' became an unlikely hero at United as a super-sub with a habit of scoring late goals. His later years at Old Trafford were dogged by injury but he won six titles and scored 91 Premier League goals in 235 appearances in total before joining the club's coaching staff in 2008.

RUUD VAN NISTELROOY (v Fulham, 19/8/2001)
What happened: After arriving from PSV Eindhoven for what was a British record £19m fee, Van Nistelrooy marked his Premier League debut with two goals in two minutes as United beat Fulham 3-2 at Old Trafford.
What happened next: The Dutchman became one of the deadliest strikers of the Premier League era, scoring 95 goals in 150 appearances before leaving United for Real Madrid in acrimonious circumstances five years later. He retired in 2012 after spells with Hamburg and Malaga.

LOUIS SAHA (v Southampton, 31/1/2004)
What happened: The Frenchman scored 18 minutes into his first United appearance - a 3-2 win over the Saints - having joined the club from Fulham in the 2004 January transfer window.
What happened next: Hit the ground running with seven goals in his first 10 starts, but his time at Old Trafford was plagued by injuries. Twenty-eight goals in 86 Premier League appearances was a decent return, but there was also a sense of what might have been when he left for Everton in 2008.

GABRIEL HEINZE (v Bolton Wanderers, 11/9/2004)
What happened: The Argentina defender scored what would turn out to be the only Premier League goal of his United career when he made his bow in a 2-2 draw with Bolton following his arrival from PSG in 2004.
What happened next: Heinze was named United's player of the year at the end of his first year, but he lost his place to Patrice Evra as injuries wrecked his 2005/06 season. Made 22 league appearances in their triumphant 2006/07 campaign. Angered fans by pushing for a move to Liverpool before joining Real Madrid, but served United well on the pitch.

GIUSEPPE ROSSI (v Sunderland, 15/10/2005)
What happened: The American-born Italian striker scored United's final goal after coming on for Ruud van Nistelrooy in a 3-1 win over Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.
What happened next: Had loan spells at Newcastle and Parma before leaving United permanently in 2007. He proved his goalscoring quality at Villarreal and current club Fiorentina, but a series of knee ligament injuries have hampered his career. Recently returned to action after a 16-month spell out.
Verdict: Miss
CHRIS EAGLES (v Everton, 28/4/2007)
What happened: After replacing Ole Gunar Solskjaer in the 86th minute at Goodison Park, Eagles scored in stoppage time to wrap up a 4-2 win for United as they took a five-point lead at the top of the table.
What happened next: The winger only made five further Premier League appearances for the Red Devils before departing for Burnley in July 2008. The 29-year-old is currently without a club after spells with Bolton, Blackpool and Charlton.

DANNY WELBECK (v Stoke City, 15/11/2008)
What happened: The local lad and academy graduate came off the bench and unleashed a stunning 30-yard strike against the Potters at Old Trafford. His goal was United's fourth of the game and they went on to win 5-0.
What happened next: Having struggled to nail down a first-team place in his favoured striking role at United, Welbeck departed for Arsenal on the final day of the summer transfer window last year. Scored for the Gunners on his return to Old Trafford last season - and found the net in Super Sunday's clash after a long lay-off but has been thwarted by injuries.
Verdict: Miss
FEDERICO MACHEDA (v Aston Villa, 5/4/2009)
What happened: His smart turn and stunning last-minute finish handed United a vital 3-2 win over Villa at Old Trafford in 2009. The famous goal helped United on their way to the title.
What happened next: Never became anything more than a bit-part player and left the club permanently for Cardiff City in 2014 after a series of loan spells with the likes of Sampdoria, QPR, Doncaster and Birmingham.

ALEXANDER BUTTNER (v Wigan Athletic, 15/9/2012)
What happened: The Dutch full-back was named man of the match as he grabbed a goal and an assist in a 4-0 win at home to Wigan Athletic after joining the club from Vitesse in the summer of 2012.
What happened next: Made a total of just 13 Premier League appearances in his two seasons at Old Trafford. Left the club for Dynamo Moscow in June 2014 citing a lack of playing opportunities and a rift with manager Louis van Gaal.

NICK POWELL (v Wigan Athletic, 15/9/2012)
What happened: Buttner was not the only debutant to find the net in that 4-0 win over Wigan. Powell had arrived from Crewe Alexandra that summer, and he scored United's fourth after replacing Ryan Giggs in the 71st minute.
What happened next: Things have not gone to plan for Powell, who has struggled with injuries and underwhelming loan spells. He is currently recovering from injury, but the 21-year-old faces a tough task to force his way into the first-team picture at Old Trafford.
Verdict: Still has time to prove himself
JAMES WILSON (v Hull City, 6/5/2014)
What happened: Wilson was handed his first start by interim boss Ryan Giggs in the final home game of the 2013/14 campaign, and he responded with a well-taken brace to hand the Red Devils three points against Hull.
What happened next: Made 17 appearances and scored twice in the 2014/15 campaign as Louis van Gaal kept him in the first team picture, but the 19-year-old now looks set for a loan move with a host of Championship clubs vying for his signature.

ANTHONY MARTIAL (v Liverpool, 12/09/2015)
What happened: Martial came off the bench for his Manchester United debut and scored a stunning solo effort to secure a 3-1 victory against arch rivals Liverpool.
What happened next: The Frenchman established himself as one of United's most attacking threats, as well as confirming his reputation as one of the most talented youngsters in the game with a series of impressive performances in his debut season - netting 10 goals in 33 games in all competitions so far.
