Reading midfielder George Evans has confirmed he did swap shirts with Wayne Rooney - despite video footage which appeared to show him snubbing the Manchester United star.

Rooney scored his 249th United goal in the 4-0 drubbing of Reading in the third round of the FA Cup, moving level with Sir Bobby Charlton as United's all-time scorer.

At the end of the game, Rooney shook hands with former Manchester City man Evans and gestured to swap shirts.

Evans appeared to say no, with social media suggesting his City loyalties - he joined them aged six and stayed until 21 - had kicked in.

But the 22-year-old later Tweeted a picture of Rooney's No 10 shirt with the caption: "To clear up I asked to exchange shirts in the tunnel due to a disappointing day!! Congratulations on your record @WayneRooney."
