Promotion vital to Campbell deal

Paul Duffen believes that Fraizer Campbell will not decide to stay at Hull unless they go up.

Striker likely to want top-flight football next season

Hull chairman Paul Duffen believes that Fraizer Campbell will not decide to stay at the club unless they gain promotion to the Premier League. Campbell is currently on a season-long loan at the Tigers from Manchester United and has been a huge success, scoring nine goals in 21 games to help the club to the fringes of the Championship play-off places. Such fine form has alerted the attention of numerous other clubs though and Duffen admits that he cannot see the striker plying his trade in the second tier come next season. However, he did reveal that, regardless of which division they are in next season, the Tigers will be first in the line for the player's services should he decide to leave Old Trafford on a permanent deal.

Ambition

"I know Fraizer has a burning ambition to be a Premiership footballer," the Duffen told the Hull Daily Mail. "Obviously, he would love to stay with Manchester United and I think it's very unlikely he would leave there to sign for a Championship team. "He is Premiership quality and as well as every other club in the Championship, I think a number of Premiership teams will be after him next season. Hopefully we will be one of them. "The minute we believe there is any chance Frazier could leave, we will put ourselves in a position to sign him."
Speculation
A £2million price tag has been bandied about as the figure it would take to lure the striker away from Old Trafford and that would require Hull to break their transfer record in order to bring him to the Kingston Communications Stadium. Duffen though feels that the figure is nothing but paper talk and is flatly refusing to even think about a possible move until the end of the season. "The £2million being reported is speculation and the price could be anything," he said. "It's not an issue at the minute, what matters is Fraizer can't be recalled or sign for anyone else until his loan with us finishes. "He's our player until the end of the season and after that we will have to see."
