Alkmaar keeper poised for Italian switch

AZ goalkeeper Sergio Romero is on the brink of a move to Sampdoria, according to reports in the Italian media. The Argentina No.1, who arrived in Alkmaar four years ago, was absent for their Eredivisie opener against PSV at the weekend. It is thought Serie B side Samp are close to signing the 24-year-old on a four-year contract in a deal worth €3.5million (£3.1m). Romero is expected to travel to Italy this weekend to finalise the deal. Speaking about his future to De Telegraaf earlier this week, the keeper said: "There is today, Wednesday, nothing. "I do not know if next week might be different. "Of course, it is normal that my manager is looking for a new club. It always occurs in July and January. Every manager is looking for a new club. "If there is a club, then I will look at it. I can compare whether it is better than what I have or if I'm better off with AZ playing in the Champions League."
