Midfielder extends United deal and rejoins Barnsley Sky Sports understands Danny Drinkwater has signed a new deal at Manchester United and rejoined Barnsley on loan. The 21-year-old has been with United his entire career but has spent almost all of his professional tenure out on loan, first with Huddersfield Town in 2009/10 and then with Cardiff City and Watford last season before joining Barnsley in the summer. Drinkwater is highly regarded within the corridors of Old Trafford and the club have moved to secure his long-term future with a new deal, and they have agreed to loan him back to Barnsley until the end of the season so that he can continue his development. The midfielder's original loan spell expired earlier this week and Barnsley boss Keith Hill was keen to bring him back to Oakwell. Drinkwater made 16 appearances in his first spell on loan at Oakwell and his return is a boost for Barnsley after losing skipper Jacob Butterfield to long-term injury earlier this week.
