Dwight Yorke believes Anthony Martial's raw talent is just what Manchester United have been crying out for under Louis van Gaal.

The French forward became the world's most expensive teenager when he was bought from Monaco for £36m - a deal which could rise to £58m with add-ons - but marked his debut in style with a goal from the substitutes' bench in Saturday's 3-1 win over Liverpool.

And speaking on Ed Chamberlin's Super Sunday podcast, former United striker Yorke says his natural desire to run at opposition players makes him an exciting addition to Van Gaal's squad.

He said: "I've been able to play at lesser clubs like Villa and those things. They were amazing times, but when you go to United for big money, the start is important.

"When he came on you could tell he was a little bit raw and rough around the edges.

"He didn't give two monkeys in terms of what you're supposed to do and just got the ball and it seems to be a natural thing just to attack the defenders, something we haven't seen for maybe 18 months at United. We've been crying out for something like that.

"Being an attacking player myself I love to see him attack at players and commit defenders. People say he got a little bit fortunate, but at the same time fair play to the lad. He kept his composure.

"He's a big-money signing and a young lad. You'd think he would probably snatch at it but he slotted it in extremely well. I am delighted for him."
