FA WSL 2 side London Bees stun Chelsea in Continental Tyres Cup

Man City, Arsenal, Liverpool and Sheffield FC also through to next round.

London Bees produced shock to rival Iceland’s Euro 2016 win over England by beating reigning FA Women’s Super League champions Chelsea on penalties in the first round of the Continental Tyres Cup.

Bethany England's 25-yard effort gave Chelsea the lead before Gilly Flaherty's own goal and a Jo Wilson strike put the WSL 2 side on top. Niamh Fahey was sent off for Chelsea but a Mille Bright stoppage-time equaliser sent the game into extra-time.

England scored with a header to make it 3-2 to the visitors before Deanna Cooper levelled, sending the match to penalties. Merrick Will netted the winning spot-kick as Bees won the shootout 4-2, after England centurion Karen Carney and South Korea international Ji So-Yun missed penalties for Chelsea.

Meanwhile, Nikita Parris netted her first hat-trick for Manchester City Women in an 8-0 win for the FA WSL 1 leaders against Aston Villa.

Jane Ross scored twice with Tessel Middag, Daphne Corboz and England midfielder Jill Scott also on target as City progressed to the second round in style.

Defending champions Arsenal Ladies eased to a 3-1 win over Reading courtesy of a Fara Williams double after Vicky Losada opened the scoring. Emma Follis pulled a goal back for Reading.
