Jurgen Klopp took his first pre-match news conference at Melwood on Thursday - and Sky Sports News HQ reporter Vinny O'Connor was there to see it.

Here is what he noted on a historic day for Liverpool as they prepare to begin life in earnest under the charismatic German...

It was meant to be a normal pre-match news conference and in many ways it was. A manager speaking about his week, his aims, the values he's trying to instil in the group and how he's going about it.

He spoke of pressure and expectation, two by-words synonymous with the Liverpool manager's job.

"My pressure I make myself is big enough. I don't need anyone to tell me you have to be successful - I know it!"

But this was far from run of the mill. If the press room at Melwood had an official capacity then it was undoubtedly reached. The number of camera crews ran into double figures.

Add to that the hordes of written press and radio journalists that had descended on Liverpool's training HQ, all for Jurgen Klopp's second outing in front of the media ahead of his first Premier League game as the Liverpool manager.

It quickly became apparent that having (what seems like) his every move monitored has come as a surprise. But such is his charisma, the admission that he'd refused a photograph with fans was more endearing than reprehensible.

"Yesterday I was having dinner with Zeljko [Buvac], Pete [Krawietz] and our wives together," he said. "Two people wanted a photo with me and I had to say 'no, please don't' because each photo they made with me until now is on Twitter.

"I met a guy and his wife with a dog. I would say they were about 50. They asked me for a photo, I said 'of course'. Next day it's in the newspaper. It looks like I am always in restaurants and bars."

For the second time in a week, Klopp had reduced a room full of his inquisitors to laughter while making a serious point. Nights out in Liverpool are not what the self-proclaimed Normal One is all about, and while he's grateful for the welcome he's received, in his mind, it's success that warrants this level of attention.

"I feel that people are a little bit [of the opinion that] it's not too bad that I am here," he said. "But in this moment it's a little bit strange because we didn't play. If they love me after the match it's much more what I want than before.

"So, let's start playing football. Let's start doing the things for what I am here, then we will see how our relationship will develop."

The initial signs are good. He speaks the fans' language when he talks of players being brave, playing without fear, producing the kind of football you dream about. In the midst of trying to bring that out of his squad, however, he's also trying to find the new normal in his own life. For that, it seems, the media need to chill.

"Everybody told me it will calm down in the next few weeks," he said. "I hope it's not because of results. I hope it's because you get a little bit cooler."
