Jordan Henderson hopes to be back playing by the start of December after suffering with a broken foot, and is looking forward to playing under Jurgen Klopp

Jordan Henderson has confirmed he is closing in on a return to full fitness as he continues his recovery from a broken foot.

The Liverpool captain sustained the injury in training and has not played since the 1-0 win over Bournemouth at Anfield in August.

Since then, Jurgen Klopp has replaced Brendan Rodgers as Liverpool's manager, meaning Henderson is yet to play for the former Borussia Dortmund boss.

But Henderson says he is making good progress as he bids for a return to Liverpool's first-team squad.

"I'm getting there," he told Sky Sports. "This is one of the longest periods of time I've been out for and that has been tough for me.

"Hopefully I'm not too far away now."

Henderson's planned return date has only ever been given as "in November" and if he comes back this week, he will be returning to a Liverpool squad in good spirits following their 4-1 Premier League win at Manchester City on Saturday night.

"I thought the lads were outstanding from start to finish," said Henderson. "Hopefully that can set a standard for us for the rest of the season.

"That shows how well we can play and we just need the consistency and to keep playing with the freedom that we did on Saturday.

Jamie Redknapp and Frank Lampard highlighted the performance of Philippe Coutinho as the key factor in Liverpool's 4-1 win at Manchester City

"The manager has made a big impact and he's been fantastic for Liverpool and for the Premier League.

"Hopefully we can keep learning from him and improving."

Henderson was speaking at a charity ball for the James Milner Foundation, which supports a number of charities including Bloodwise, Help for Heroes and the NSPCC.
