PSV coach confident ahead of final group game

PSV Eindhoven manager Huub Stevens believes his side can claim all three points against Liverpool. Whilst Liverpool and Atletico Madrid have already qualified for the next phase, the Eredivisie club find themselves battling it out with Marseille for the Uefa Cup spot. With only three points accumulated so far, PSV require a point in their final game against Liverpool to avoid their worst ever showing in the UEFA Champions League. They also need to better the result of Marseille, who face a tricky tie against group leaders Atletico.

Confident

Stevens said: "We want to give the supporters something to enjoy. Then the result will be okay, I'm sure about that. "Will Liverpool start with the best line-up? I don't really know but you don't like to lose." PSV could be without leading goalscorer Danny Koevermans (calf) and fellow striker Nordin Amrabat (groin). Ibrahim Afellay (ankle) and former Kop defender Jan Kromkamp (ankle) have both been ruled out. And Mexico defender Carlos Salcido will retain the vice captaincy after talks with general manager Jan Reker. Controversial Salcido claimed in a newspaper interview he wanted to leave the club, blaming coach Stevens for his poor form.

Disillusioned

The 28-year-old defender said: "As a footballer you don't expect a coach to totally break you mentally." Stevens has been playing the defender at left-back rather than his favoured centre-back position, and Salcido said: "I have to accept that but it's all gone terribly wrong for me. "If I was coach of PSV, I would never put a player in the line-up that functions like that. Stevens has killed me mentally. "In January I'm packing my bags and then I'm gone."
