Goalkeeper Andy Lonergan has set his sights on displacing Adam Bogdan in the No.1 jersey after joining Bolton from Leeds on a three-year deal.
The Trotters confirmed the signing of the 28-year-old on Tuesday as competition for first-choice shot-stopper Bogdan, who picked up the club's player of the season award last term.
Lonergan, who will join the rest of the squad for Bolton's pre-season trip to Scotland on Wednesday, is looking forward to the challenge of trying to win the gloves.
He told the club's
official website: "I've come here to put pressure on Adam.
"I believe he was Player of the Year last season and did exceptionally well, so it's going to be a challenge for both of us. But around the squad in general the competition is fierce.
"I've had the privilege of being the No.1 wherever I've been, so this is a change. It's going to be a challenge but you have to take challenges on."
Options
Lonergan says he had other options but chose Bolton because he believes the club are contenders to return to the Premier League at the first time of asking.
The former Preston shot-stopper added: "A few other clubs had offers accepted but as soon as I knew of Bolton's interest and the way the club has conducted itself during the talks, I wanted to come here. I'm delighted that today is the day.
"I've played nearly 250 matches in this league and I've come close to getting out of it. The squad here is Premier League quality and I believe it is best placed to get promoted.
"This is the perfect move for me and I'm delighted that it has all gone through."
