'Amazing' midfielder signs new long-term contract

Arsene Wenger admits he is delighted to have signed teenager Fran Merida on a new long-term deal. The 18-year-old midfielder, described by the Arsenal boss as an 'absolutely amazing' talent, has agreed to extend his apprenticeship with the Gunners. Merida, who initially joined Arsenal from Barcelona in 2006, is currently on loan at Spanish side Real Sociedad.

Good news

Wenger told Arsenal TV Online: "Yes we have extended his contract. That was planned and it is good news because he is a very fine player. He is one for the future. "The reports I have from Spain are that he does well every time he plays. "Fran is very technical. He still needs to grow physically but football-wise there is no problem. He is an absolutely amazing player."
