Midfielder determined to provide Van Persie with ammunition

Alex Song is hoping to play an important role in keeping Robin van Persie firing on all cylinders, with the pair having combined brilliantly last weekend. Song provided the ammunition for Van Persie to snatch a spectacular winner for Arsenal in a crucial meeting with Liverpool. His late strike secured the Gunners a 2-1 victory and consolidated their standing inside the Premier League's top four. Song says the understanding he has with his captain has been fine-tuned on the training ground and he is planning to provide many more assists before the season is out. "Everyone knows that Robin can make the difference in every single game he plays. We are happy and lucky to have him in our squad," said Song. "I work well with him in training and I know how he moves. "When I have the chance I try to give him a good ball, and if I do that then I know he can score at any time."

Challengers

Arsenal saw their European dreams dashed by AC Milan in midweek, despite staging a brave second leg fight back, and they know they will end the campaign empty-handed. There is, however, still plenty for the Gunners to play for, with Monday's meeting with Newcastle offering them another chance to close on arch-rivals Tottenham in third place and edge closer to UEFA Champions League qualification. Song said: "There is still all to play for and anything can happen. "We have a big game against Newcastle, and we know they are also in the fight for fourth place. "If we win that, and open up a bit more space between ourselves and the other challengers, then we will be in a good position."
