Ronald Koeman says the Sam Allardyce saga is a 'black mark' on football

Everton manager Ronald Koeman says he thinks the FA had no choice but to dispense with the services of Sam Allardyce as England manager.

Allardyce left his post on Tuesday, just 67 days after taking charge, following an undercover investigation by The Daily Telegraph.

The veteran boss was videoed apparently discussing how it was possible to circumvent FA rules on player transfers.

And, speaking ahead of Friday night's game with Crystal Palace, Koeman said his own managerial style is to concentrate on his work on the training ground and that the Allardyce footage was not good for the sport

"If you like football, then it's a bad story," said Koeman. "For football in general, it's a black mark on the game. That's not good.

"What I know is how I work in my managerial role, and that's not different in England to when I was in Holland or Portugal or Spain.

"My advice for a player is technical, I am not involved in the business, but I cannot talk about other managers.

"I'm very disappointed, first of all for the man himself.

"He had the chance to be manager of England national team, then this happened. I think the FA made the right decision."

Meanwhile, Koeman is expecting an improved showing from Everton against Palace on Friday, following last week's 1-0 loss at Bournemouth.

"I think the problem in the first half (against Bournemouth) was we tried to do high pressing but not the whole team was involved in that, and then you get space in between the lines," he said.

"That can make it look like your opponents are more aggressive, but the distances were not what we wanted.

"We did everything in the second half. They had one shot on target, scored a fantastic goal, and sometimes you need to accept a defeat. But, of course, we will try to be better in several aspects.

"We need to be at our best tomorrow night, and I expect that. You like to see a reaction.

"But we are talking about one defeat from six in the Premier League, that is not bad.

"And, if we get a very good result tomorrow night, everybody will be very happy about the first seven.

"If we win we are second in the table, it is more than everybody expected. We are in a good way, no problem."
