Liverpool City Council has approved a recommendation for Everton to move forward with plans to build a 50,000-seater stadium at Bramley Moore Dock.

The project was approved on Thursday night by the LCC Regeneration Select Committee, as the plans moved another step closer to becoming a reality.

The stadium will be privately funded but the council will create a Special Purpose Vehicle which will have the leasehold on the site.

Everton will then sub-lease use of the stadium for a period of 40 years, at which point they will have the option to purchase the leasehold.

It is regarded as a hugely important social project for North Liverpool to kick-start regeneration in the area and creating up to 20,000 jobs.
