Midfielder suffers ankle knock on international duty

Everton midfielder Steven Pienaar expects to be out for three weeks with an ankle injury. Pienaar has been away on Africa Cup of Nations duty with South Africa and missed his national team's final group game against Senegal with the problem. He is due to return to Everton to undergo a scan on the injury and is likely to be out until the end of the month. The 25-year-old also rejected claims from South Africa that he was using the injury as an excuse for the country's poor display in the Cup of Nations.

Nonsense

"This is just nonsense," Pienaar told reporters. "I am injured and will be out for three weeks. "I am not that stupid and I don't care what anybody says. "I was having a good tournament and would have loved to play." Pienaar's last appearance for Everton was the shock home defeat to Oldham Athletic in the FA Cup at the start of January as his international call-up forced him to miss the first leg of the Carling Cup semi-final with Chelsea.
