Bolton boss wants Jaaskelainen to extend stay

Sammy Lee remains committed to persuading goalkeeper Jussi Jaaskelainen that his future lies with Bolton. The highly-rated Finland international rejected the club's most recent offer of a new contract and his agent, Peter Harrison, claims talks have since stalled. Reebok Stadium boss Lee insists that Jaaskelainen remains a big part of his plans and he is determined to find a resolution to the current impasse.

Best players

Lee told The Bolton News: "We are working hard behind the scenes to try to get an agreement. "I have always said we don't want to lose our best players and Jussi comes into that category." Jaaskelainen is the club's longest-serving player and will be awarded a testimonial as he will celebrate 10 years with the Trotters in November. Lee believes the new deal on the table from Bolton recognises the player's value and is hoping he will elect to stay on. He added: "The club made Jussi a very good offer, which he rejected. "He said he would see out the remainder of his contract, which is not the same as saying he was staying at the club."
