Baggies have third offer rejected

Preston have dismissed a third bid from West Brom for highly-rated goalkeeper Andy Lonergan. The 26-year-old has been the subject of continued interest from the Premier League newcomers as they look to bolster their ranks ahead of the top-flight season. But North End have remained resolute despite their off-field financial problems and have knocked back the Baggies for a third time. Deepdale boss Darren Ferguson insisted earlier this month that he has no intention of allowing his No.1 goalkeeper to leave and he is sticking to his guns.

No chance

It now remains to be seen if Roberto di Matteo's men will return with another improved approach for the custodian. Ferguson, who saw his side beat Blackburn 3-0 at Deepdale on Tuesday night, told the club's official website: "They have been in three times now and we have turned down every bid. "I think everyone has some sort of perception the club is skint but the chairman and the owner are trying to help me as much as they can and to turn down a third bid suggests that. "We got the latest bid today but I value him at £20million - I don't want to sell him! I'm not being funny but West Brom are not going to get him for what they are bidding, no chance."
