Reading have announced that goalkeeper Adam Federici has signed a new deal at the Championship club.

Goalkeeper commits to club until 2011

Reading have announced that goalkeeper Adam Federici has signed a new deal at the Championship club. The 23-year-old's previous contract had been due to expire at the end of the season and he has now agreed revised terms that will keep him at the Madejski Stadium until 2011. Federici has made just one league appearance this campaign but is likely to be handed further opportunities to impress after first-choice keeper Marcus Hahnemann suffered a calf injury. The Australian told the club's official website: "To have signed once again is fantastic. Now I want to go on and play more games and do well for the club.

Exceptional

"Hopefully in the long run I can be No.1 here, and signing a long deal gives me real confidence and shows faith in my abilities from the people at the club." Director of football Nick Hammond added: "Adam has proved to be a more than able deputy for Marcus Hahnemann whenever he has been called upon. "He also had an exceptional loan spell at Southend United earlier this season which generated a lot of interest, so I'm delighted to have secured his long-term services following our discussions over the last few weeks. "Now with Marcus' unfortunate injury he has the opportunity to establish himself in the team, which has always been his number one target while he has been here."
