Reading are hoping that midfielder Jay Tabb does not require surgery on his ankle injury.
The midfielder aggravated the problem in last week's Carling Cup win at Torquay, but he could return to training by the end of this week.
Assistant manager Nigel Gibbs told the
Reading Evening Post: "Jay's got a bit of an ongoing ankle injury. Hopefully he isn't going to be out for long.
"We'll just have to wait and see how he is at the end of the week to be honest. It cleared up for a bit but now it has come back.
"The last thing we want is him to have an operation. I think he just got unlucky getting a whack on it as well. It's just the way it goes."

Meanwhile, Royals striker Noel Hunt believes he is three weeks away from a return to full fitness after a lengthy lay-off.
The Republic of Ireland international made his first league appearance in 10 months when he came off the bench at Portsmouth on Saturday and is targeting a return to the starting line-up within a month.
He said: "It has been a long time coming. I have been counting every day until I played so it was great.
"My full fitness has to come and I've got two or three weeks of fitness to catch up but the knee has been perfect for a couple of months now.
"I've worked hard and I feel great. Hopefully a goal is not far away."
