Sylvain Distin insists he has no regrets on leaving Manchester City despite them sitting towards the top of the Premier League.
The Portsmouth defender left City in the summer before the club were taken over by Thaksin Shinawatra.
Since then Sven Goran Eriksson has been appointed as manager and the club have enjoyed a solid start to the season.
The 29-year-old continues to defend his decision to leave Manchester City and move south ahead of Sunday's meeting between the two clubs.
No regrets
"I was right to move to Pompey," he told the News of the World.
"A lot of people have asked if I regret leaving City when I did but I don't. How could I have predicted that City would be doing so well?
"I don't regret my choice of joining Portsmouth. We're just three points behind.
"Look at the situation when I made the decision - there was no coach and no-one knew what was going to happen. So I took the best option for me."
Options
Distin also revealed that there were other clubs interested in him when he announced he was looking for a move away from Eastlands.
He added: "I gave myself a deadline to leave and, when it arrived, Portsmouth was the best option.
"There were other teams interested - some bigger clubs too. I don't want to name names but two clubs who usually finish in the top six were interested in me.
"But they let me know I wouldn't play often and there was a hierarchy in place."
