Croatian happy to make history

Niko Kranjcar is delighted to have played a part in Portsmouth's greatest triumph for 69 years. The Croatian international featured for the full 90 minutes at Wembley Stadium as Pompey lifted the FA Cup for the first time since 1939. The playmaker has already assured his place in Fratton Park folklore, and has expressed his pride at helping the club lift a long-awaited piece of silverware. "It was a great honour to come to Pompey and win the FA Cup," he told Sky Sports. "It's a great moment in the club's history and I am very happy for myself and the team."

Favourites

Harry Redknapp's side were strong favourites heading into the showpiece event, and were expected to make light work of Championship opponents Cardiff. However, the Premier League club were pushed all the away by Dave Jones' men, and Kranjcar admits that Pompey can count themselves fortunate to have scraped a 1-0 win. "I don't believe we were favourites for all the game, but we knew that if we stayed on top of the game we would have more quality and I think the quality came out," he said. "They gave us a big test and created some chances, so we are really lucky that we scored the winner and that we were the team that came out on top in the end."
