Spurs ace hoping to maintain form to win back England spot

Paul Robinson is looking to maintain his fine form for Tottenham in order to help win back the England number one shirt. The former Leeds United keeper has 41 caps for his country, but was axed by Steve McClaren prior to his sacking for a series of high-profile blunders. Despite losing his place to Scott Carson for England's final 2008 Euro qualifier against Croatia, the 28-year-old is now back to his best for Spurs. Robinson has admitted his confidence did take a hit while out of form, although he believes a stint out of the lime-light for England has helped make him a better player. With Fabio Capello now in charge of The Three Lions, Robinson is hoping a strong end of season run will help propel him back into the number one jersey.

Confidence

"I had a dip in confidence," explained Robinson. "Of course it hurt at the time being left out by England, but sometimes you look at the game and become a better player when you're not playing. "When you get criticised, it is not nice but I feel in the last few weeks I've been getting back to my best. I'm feeling confident now. "With the new England manager everyone starts with a clean slate but there are only a couple of friendly games during the rest of this season so I'm really looking to maintain my form for Tottenham."
