Brazilian shot-stopper destined to leave Eredivisie champs

PSV Eindhoven claim Tottenham are keen on taking Heurelho Gomes to White Hart Lane. The Brazilian international put in a transfer request shortly after PSV clinched the Eredivisie title last season, citing differences with managing director Jan Reker as the reason behind the decision. Widely regarded as one of the most consistent shot-stoppers in Europe his availability is thought to have alerted the attentions of Juande Ramos. Spurs have already seen back-up keeper Radek Cerny leave the club since the end of last season, while Paul Robinson's future remains shrouded in doubt. With the inexperienced Ben Alnwick unlikely to be thrown into first-team action any time soon Ramos is understandably keen to add to his options before the 2008/09 season gets underway.

Candidates

Reker confirmed that the Premier League side had been in touch in regards to Gomes, but insists that a deal is yet to be struck. "Tottenham have informed us of their interest," he said in the Eindhovens Dagblad newspaper. With PSV resigned to the fact that their keeper will be leaving during the close season, Reker also revealed that a list of possible replacements has been drawn up. "It is true that (Manchester City's) Andreas Isaksson is one of the candidates to replace Gomes, but we are looking at other keepers too," he added.
