Pavlyuchenko tipped to prove his worth in time

Jermaine Jenas is convinced that Roman Pavlyuchenko will prove to be a 'fantastic' player for Tottenham Hotspur. Pavlyuchenko has started Spurs' last two Premier League games following his move from Spartak Moscow before the closure of the transfer window. However, he has yet to score and was substituted at half-time during Sunday's 0-0 draw at home to Wigan Athletic. Reports suggest he will be rested for Wednesday's Carling Cup tie at Newcastle United, but Jenas believes the Russian striker needs time to hit top form.

Long season

"You have to remember Roman has had a long old season," said Jenas. "He may need a bit of a rest here and there before we see the best of him and if that's the case we will take that. "But I have seen enough of him, both in training and in flashes in games, to suggest he is going to be a fantastic player for Tottenham." Meanwhile, former Newcastle midfielder Jenas is hoping the trip to St James' Park, live on Sky Sports 2, will spark Spurs' season. The club have yet to win on the domestic front and Jenas concedes the third round tie is a big fixture for both struggling clubs. He added: "It is a huge game, but then every game for us is vital at the minute. "It has been a difficult start and there is a lot of frustration, but if we keep working hard, hopefully things will start to gel."
